Global Migration Film Festival 2020

Global Migration Film Festival 2020

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) launched the 5th Global Migration Film Festival (GMFF), lasting from the 30th of November to the 18th of December.

This year five films are presented in the official selection of the Festival. The topics covered by the films are dedicated to children’s deportation, foreigners’ perception of life in a new country, revolution, the meaning of “home”, prejudices and local people’s views towards migrants.

The core objective pursued by the Festival goes in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It aims to shed light on the worldwide phenomenon of migration and to incentivise greater discussion of the issue. According to the idea of the Festival, films serve as educational advocacy tools that form a more inclusive attitude towards migrants by highlighting the challenges they face and the contributions that migrants make to their “new homes”.
