Global Visual Contest: a photo contest on human rights
The Global Visual Contest, organised by the Global Campus of Human Rights, invites photographers, professionals and amateurs, from all over the world to take part in it by sending their photographs. Applications to participate can be submitted until 1 December 2018.
The theme for the 2018/2019 edition is: "Free and equal in dignity and rights: images of the everyday lives of LGBTIQ + persons". This theme wants to challenge the frequently negative image of LGBTIQ+ persons in the media and to encourage the elimination of the stigma, prejudice and discrimination that are still associated with what is perceived as non-conformity to rigid sexual and gender norms as well as cultural and social constructs of feminine and masculine.
The contest is open to professional and amateur photographers. A number of images will be selected to be displayed on a dedicated online gallery and in connection to GC events/activities ensuring international exposure also thanks to different partners and social media channels. The international jury is comprised of renowned international photographers such as Jim Marshall, Maika Elan, Carloman Macidiano Céspedes Riojas and Frank Finance-Madureira as well as activists such Joeri Kempen.
The Global Campus Visual Contest aims to create synergies between academia, Human Rights defenders and artists to reach a wider international public and foster a better understanding of the issues concerning human rights and their protection.
