Implementing ECHR judgments: new factsheet on rights of LGBTI people

The Council of Europe’s Department for the Execution of Judgments of the European Court of Human Rights has published a new thematic factsheet on cases related to the rights of LGBTI (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex) people. The factsheet summarises measures reported by 18 member states to protect and further strengthen the rights of LGBTI people in response to 33 different judgments from the ECHR.

It covers topics including the decriminalisation of homosexual relations, combating hate crime against LGBTI people and the legal recognition of gender identity, as well as the rights of homosexual people in the armed forces, the right to adoption, parental authority and the custody of children.

This is the ninth in a series of thematic factsheets on changes to national policy and practice across Europe linked to the implementation of ECHR judgments.
