The Interministerial Committee for Human Rights (CIDU) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy approved the IV National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security Agenda, 2020 - 2024. The five-year Action Plan was released on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the IV World Conference on Women in Beijing (1995) and in the framework of the 20th anniversary of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 (2000), the first resolution that explicitly mentions the impact of war on women and their contribution to conflict resolution for lasting peace.

In line with the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, the new Action Plan pursues four objectives aimed at promoting and strengthening: the role of women in peace and in all decision-making processes; the gender perspective in peace operations; the empowerment of women, gender equality and the protection of the human rights of women and girls in conflict and post-conflict areas; communication, advocacy and training activities at all levels, on the Women, Peace and Security Agenda and related issues, while increasing synergies with civil society to effectively implement Resolution 1325 (2000) and the Women, Peace and Security Agenda.
