OSINT-based Law Clinic for human rights master's students, March-May 2025
-
Event date: March - May 2025

The MA Degree Programme in Human Rights and Multi-level Governance (HRG) has organised the third edition of the OSINT-based Law Clinic open to HRG students.
This year, the clinic will focus on identifying, collecting, and verifying digital evidence related to attacks in Ukraine. Participating students have previously attended an Open-Source Investigative Techniques (OSINT) workshop in December 2024. Students will identify, collect, and verify relevant digital evidence such as satellite imagery, videos, pictures and other materials available on the web and analyse them. To conduct a digital investigation, they will employ OSINT tools, including geolocation and chronolocation, and conduct social media research.
The investigation will examine attacks carried out since February 2022. To assess the gravity of the crimes and their potential relevance in a criminal procedure before the ICC, students will consider various factors, including severity of damage, impact on the affected community, indications of intent, and availability and persuasiveness of evidence.
Six selected HRG students will participate in the law clinic. The principal instructor, Stefano Trevisan, advocate and OSINT investigator, is supported by Drs. Carlotta Rossato (University of Padova), Vincenzo Pasquantonio (University of London), and Ophélie Martin Leblanc, HRG alumna and OSINT expert.
Academic coordinators: Profs. Paolo De Stefani and Sara Pennicino, University of Padova.
The kick-off meeting is scheduled for March 7. The team will meet in a hybrid format roughly once per week, and the investigative report will be delivered by the end of May.
Full participation in law school activities entitles students to receive a dedicated open badge certified by the University of Padova.
