Security Council: Russia's veto compromises the Syrian population
Russia during a recent session of the UN Security Council vetoed the renewal of a resolution that aimed to provide humanitarian aid to help around 4 million Syrians living in the north-west.
This action will lead to the interruption of a safe passage used to transport food, medicine and even water for people living and depending completely on the UN aids to live.
Agnes Callamard, General Secretary of Amnesty International, declared that “This veto affects directly the enjoyment of human rights, being an irresponsible political move on behalf of Russia at the expense if innocent people”
In the midst of these events, Amnesty International had published a report that highlighted the difficult humanitarian situation of the region and aimed to support the resolution vetoed days later.
