Study trip to Geneva of post-graduate students on human rights of the University of Padua (9 - 13 May 2010)

From 9 to 13 May, a group of around 30 students of the Post-graduate Course in Institutions and Policies of Human Rights and Peace of the University of Padua, along with four students of the European Master's Degree in Human Rights and Democratisation, will travel to Geneva to visit the headquarters of the UN human rights institutions.

The students, selected among those enrolled in the post-graduate course of Padua University, will meet officers of the High Commissioner for human rights, the UNDP, the WHO, as well as activists of NGOs based in Geneva and in consultative status with the ECOSOC and the Human Rights Council. Students will attend also some meetings of the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and the Council's Universal Periodic Review (UPR) working group.

Students in particular will meet Ambassador Laura Mirachian, Head of the Permanent Mission of Italy to the UN in Geneva, and graduated in Political Science at the University of Padua, as well as the nuncio of the Holy See. to the UN, Archbsp Silvano Tomasi.

The study trip is organised by the Post-graduate course board and the Human Rights Centre of the University of Padua, with a financial support of the Department of International Relations of the Region of Veneto, which has also collaborated in setting the trip programme.
