Tavola della Pace: the March goes on. City by city!
After the March for Peace Perugia-Assisi on 16 May 2010 and to conclude the 28th national Seminar of the Tavola della pace “Against the bigger crisis” which took place on 2 and 3 July 2010 in Senigallia (Ancona), the Tavola della Pace (Italian Roundtable for Peace), in cooperation with the National Coordinating body of the local authorities for peace and human rights, has convened a new March for Peace Perugia-Assisi to be realised on Sunday 25 September 2011.
The March will be the climax of a new year of mutual commitment for the construction of a new culture and a politics of peace which will begin Tuesday 21 September 2010, UN International Peace Day.
The year 2011 will also celebrate the 50th anniversary of the March for peace Perugia-Assisi, which was realized for first time by Aldo Capitini on 24 Semptember 1961.
The 50th anniversary of the “Perugia-Assisi” and the March on 25 September 2011 are the chance to think back and to redesign the commitment for peace in everyone's own city.
All the associations, groups, local governments, schools and media are invited to organize on 21 September 2010, in their own territory, a meeting to plan the educational path to be realized until the next “Perugia-Assisi” on 25 September 2011.
The initiatives which will take place, starting on 21 September 2010 will be focused on five general objectives:
- to invest in the education of conscious citizens stimulating their further commitment and of every educational agencies, at all levels
- to invest in the education of peace operators and human rights defenders which are employed inside and outside the institutions;
- to promote an information and a communication of peace, starting from the public role that has to be played by the RAI Public television;
- to promote the commitment of young people for peace and human rights, developing educational paths and active participation;
- to construct “cities of peace and human rights”, stimulating the Municipalities, Provinces, and Regions to act, with more coerence, to fight every kind of violence and to ensure the full respect of human rights in their territory.
