On Monday 11 and Tuesday 12 November 2024, the annual International Conference on Human Rights ‘Global Civil Society's value and law power facing a crisis of values and law. Ideas and actions to shape an international order of peace' has been held.

The conference kicked off with a plenary session on the protection of civil society’s role in the human rights system, delivered by Nina Hall, Nina Reiners, and Thomas Davies. In the afternoon of Monday 11, a series of panels on the multiple areas of civil society action, such as the promotion of peace and human rights by civil society and local governments were held. Other panels covered a vast series of topics:

  • multilevel governance of civil society and local governments;
  • advocacy and digital mobilisation at a time of declining civic space;
  • innovations and threats in transnational social mobilisation;
  • challenges of NGOs in protecting human rights in conflict situations and
  • the dynamic influence of social movements in the 21st century.

The International Conference ended on Tuesday 12 November with a panel discussion on the added value and challenges of civil society to transform human rights education in Universities

The Conference, organised by the Antonio Papisca Centre for Human Rights and the UNESCO Chair for Human Rights, Democracy and Peace, brought together scholars and doctoral students from different fields as well as experts, activists and members of civil society from different European universities to exchange their perspectives, opinions and criticisms.
