United Nations: “Financing for Sustainable Development Report 2021”
The United Nations Inter-agency Task Force on Financing for Development has released the Financing for Sustainable Development Report 2021 (FSDR).
The report draws attention to the risk of losing as much as 10 years of development due to the COVID-19 pandemic if urgent action is not taken now. The pandemic has caused the worst recession in 90 years, which has exacerbated economic inequalities between rich and poor. The recession largely results from the fact that some countries lack the financial resources to combat the crisis and its socio-economic consequences. An estimated 114 million jobs have been lost and some 120 million persons have plunged back into extreme poverty.
FSDR 2021 is the sixth report designed to analyse the results of Financing for Development and the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. The assessment draws on the expertise, analysis, and data of more than 60 international agencies and institutions that make up the Task Force, which is led by UN DESA, along with the World Bank, International Monetary Fund, World Trade Organization, UNCTAD, and UNDP.
