The United Nations Secretary-General's Report 2024 Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration  (A/79/590) on the implementation of the Global Compact for Migration (GCM) was released on December 5 2024. The document describes progress made, challenges faced, and provides recommendations for advancing GCM commitments and improving migration management.

Among the main points, the Report highlights GCM indicators, a voluntary framework to monitor progress and align policies with the 2030 Agenda, and proposals to save lives. Recommendations focus on five priorities: preventing migrant deaths and disappearances, searching for and identifying the missing, supporting affected families, ensuring justice and accountability, and improving data collection and use.

There are also indicators to help states assess GCM implementation in a simpler and more consistent way. These tools, based on existing frameworks such as the SDG indicators, aim to reduce the burden on national statistical systems and focus on the Compact's main goals.
