Call for applications

The Call for Applications for the 42nd Cycle of the Joint International PhD Programme in Human Rights, Society and Multilevel Governance (A.Y. 2026/27) is now open!

The programme will admit seven students, as follows:

  • Four students supported by scholarships provided by the University of Padova (Italy).
  • Two students supported by scholarships provided by Tangaza University (Kenya).
  • One student admitted without a scholarship.


The University of Padova's scholarships will prioritise the following research topics:

  • Human Rights Protection and Social Justice
  • Inclusion and psychological growth
  • Climate Justice, Political Agroecology, and Sustainable Development 
  • Paediatric palliative care

The Tangaza University scholarships are restricted to the following research topic:

  • Sustainable Development and Social Innovation (including Urban Climate Justice and Community Development)

Important dates
  • Application must be submitted no later than 20 May 2026 at 1:00 pm CEST
  • Publication of the results of the evaluation of the preselection available at this page: within 10 June 2026
  • Oral examination: from 16 June 2026 at 09:30 (CEST UTC+2:00).
  • Final ranking of the selected candidates available at this page: 1 July 2026.
  • Beginning of PhD courses: 1 November 2026
