The Office for democratic institutions and human rights (ODIHR)

Established in 1990 as the Office for Free Elections and subsequently reorganised in name and mandate, the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) is the main OSCE institution designed to assist member States in implementing their human dimension obligations.

The ODIHR’s activity are divided into five macro-areas:

  • elections,
  • democratisation,
  • human rights, tolerance,
  • non-discrimination,
  • Roma and Sinti issues.
