The 4th annual humanitarian workshop is organised by the Italian Red Cross Local Branch Padua in collaboration with the Masters in "Human Rights and Multi-level Governance" of the University of Padua. It’s objective is to present, with a theoretical and practical approach, the humanitarian challenges associated with armed conflict, climate change and how the Movement is able to manage these causes, in Italy and abroad.
The four-day workshop is divided into two phases: seminar (9-10 May) and simulation (12-13 May).
The seminar will take place in Padua on 9 and 10 May. It is organised in two-afternoon sessions on following topics: the structure and origins of the movement, the role of the ICRC and the ICRC delegate, International Humanitarian Law, climate change, and how to reduce its risks and finally the Restoring Family Links service (RFL).
The second phase will take place on 12 and 13 May in a beautiful park in Peraga di Vigonza. Here the participants will deepen their knowledge of the Geneva Conventions and experiment with their newfound competences in a role-play regarding the International Humanitarian Law.
The participants will stay provided by the Red Cross Local Branch of Padua in the grounds of the Castle dei Da Peraga, which hosts this initiative for the second year.
The themes that will be studied in depth this year include the role of the ICRC in armed conflict with particular reference to prisoners of war, protection of health care in conflict zones, restoring family links and the risks associated with climate change. The workshop will be concluded with a round table discussion.
The Red Cross Padua Branch has been running this event annually since 2015 in collaboration with the University of Padua, with the intention of stimulating and developing a multicultural dialogue regarding humanitarian issues and for volunteers and students to share experiences.
