Study Trip to the International Organizations in Geneva A.Y. 2018/2019
The now traditional study trip took place from 5 to 9 May 2019, with a group of 25 students of HRG, integrated by 5 students of the European Master’s Programme in Human Rights and Democratisation.
Divided into sub-groups of 8-10 people, the students had meetings and exchanges with the following institutions or agencies:
OHCHR Field Operations and Technical Cooperation Division (FOTCD); Permanent Mission of Italy to the UN; OHCHR Special Procedures, Protection, Religion, Accountability and Human Security Section; EU delegation to the UN; Inter-parliamentary Union (IPU); OHCHR, National Institutions, Regional Mechanisms and Civil Society Section; World Trade Organization; OHCHR Treaty Bodies Capacity Building, on the Universal Human Rights Indexing; The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC): special seminar on international humanitarian law; FIAN; UPR Info; Geneva for HR.
The students also participated in the UPR sessions concerning Norway, Albania, Portugal, Ivory Coast and the DRC. They were also able to follow the 66th session of the Committee Against Torture on the review of the State Report of the UK. The students also visited the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum at the end of the special seminar on humanitarian law offered by the organisation’s delegates.
The final evaluations have been extremely positive. The study trip to the city hosting the main United Nations structures dedicated to human rights, various other intergovernmental agencies and nongovernmental organisations confirms an important added value for the course.
