Workshop Cultural and Value Roots for intercultural dialogue in a European context, 2011

In the framework of its thematic network activities on capacity building and curriculum development in the area of intercultural dialogue and multi-level governance the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence organizes 25-26 October 2011 a 2 days-Workshop on "Cultural and value roots for intercultural dialogue in a European context".

Focus will be on an applied reflection and policy assessment of the cultural and value basis of the European integration process, seen from an internal and external perspective. Special attention will be given to the specific sources and references to imagine Europe’s future as a plural entity and a socio-economic model shaped by a community of shared values, spaces and encounters as well as to the references and sources for Europe’s role and responsibility in a plural and globalizing world.

The WS is structured in three work sessions:

  • Session 1 will deal with "Human Rights and Value driven Dialogues in Europe";
  • Session 2 focuses on "Value driven foundations of Europe";
  • Session 3 will be devoted to "Perspectives of a value oriented Europe in the World".


Among the speakers of the WS are Dr. Ulrich Bunjes (Head of the Youth Department, Council  of Europe), Luk Bouckaert, (Professor Emeritus of Ethics, Catholic University of Leuven, Founder and President European SPES-forum), Christoph Eberhard (Professor, Facultés universitaires Saint Louis, Bruxelles), José Maria Gil-Robles Gil Delgado (Professor, Director European Center of Excellence, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, former  President  European Parliament), Hervé Pierre Guillot SJ. (European  Office, OCIPE), Thomas Jansen (European Movement) Wolfram Kaiser (Professor of European Studies, University of Portsmouth and Visiting Professor, College of Europe, Bruges), Ariane Landuyt (Jean Monnet Chair, Director Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence, University of Siena), Ferenc Miszlivetz (Director Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence, ISES, Corvinus University, Kőszeg, Boedapest), Riccardo Scartezzini (Director, Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence, University of Trento), Dario Velo (Chairman Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence, University of Pavia) and Peter Xuereb (Jean Monnet Professor of European Union Law and European Integration, Chairman of the Jean Monnet European Centre of Excellence, University of Malta).

 

The Workshop takes place in the Teatro Ruzante (I session) and in Aula Nievo and is open to the general public. In order to attend to Workshop participants are required to fill in the application form indicated at the end of this page.

A certificate of attendance will be issued to participants attending the three sessions.
