Summer School 2025 "Rights in Europe: The Risks and Impact of Authoritarianism": call for application

The call for application is now open for the second edition of the Summer School on Human Rights 2025, which will take place from 26 August to 2 October 2025, entirely online and in English.

The summer school is organised in cooperation with the University of Ghent, the Centre for Human Rights at the University of Galway, the University of Groningen, the University of Uppsala and the Elena Bonner School of Human Rights.

This year's central theme will be the relationship between fundamental rights and authoritarianism in the political context of Europe. It will analyse how political regimes influence institutions charged with the protection of rights, delve into social transformations related to digital and environmental policies, and critically reflect on the use and abuse of the language of rights by authoritarian actors. The programme is divided into four thematic blocks, a methodological workshop and a final project presentation, for a total of 30 academic hours (3 ECTS credits).

Participation is free of charge and is aimed at final-year undergraduate and graduate students from Europe, the Caucasus, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova and Central Asia interested in human rights challenges in contemporary political contexts. To apply, please send your CV and motivation letter via the online form by 27 July.
