Youth Peace Security

The international "Youth, Peace and Security" Agenda is one of the key pillars of contemporary global policies devoted to peace, human rights and human security.

Its normative foundation is United Nations Security Council Resolution 2250 (S/RES/2250 (2015)), adopted unanimously on December 9, 2015. The Resolution formally acknowledges the decisive contribution of young generations to conflict prevention, peace processes and the building of resilient and inclusive societies.

The Resolution is structured around five pillarsParticipation, Protection, Prevention, Partnership, Disengagement and Reintegration — and introduces an innovative approach: young people are no longer viewed solely as vulnerable groups, but as essential actors in the peaceful transformation of communities and in the promotion of human security. The Agenda aligns with the perspective opened by Women, Peace and Security, of which it constitutes a complementary intergenerational development.

The "Youth, Peace and Security" Agenda stems from the joint commitment of the United Nations, national governments and civil society organizations, and is currently being implemented at international, regional and national levels. Among its main operational tools are National Action Plans (NAPs), designed to strengthen the meaningful participation of young people in shaping peace policies and in the governance of security.
