Ambassador Michele Giacomelli is the new Permanent Representative of Italy to the Council of Europe
Ambassador Michele Giacomelli has been appointed as the new Permanent Representative of Italy to the Council of Europe.
Giacomelli, whose mandate started on 1st February 2019, declared: "For 70 years the Council of Europe has been the main instrument at continental level for the creation of a common area based on shared principles for the protection of human rights and the promotion of democracy and the rule of law. A valuable contribution to security and stability in Europe".
Michele Giacomelli has more than 30 years of diplomatic career, he has been, inter alia: First Secretary for Commercial Affairs in Sofia and in Brasilia, Acting Consul General in Bern, First Commercial Counsellor at the Italian Permanent Delegation to the OECD in Paris, First Counsellor for Political Affairs in London, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Algiers.
He also has held several positions with the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
