Children's Rights European Academic Network: Save the Date - Conference “Interdisciplinary and Intersectional Challenges in Childhood and Children's Rights Studies”, 26-27 March 2020, Potsdam, Germany
The Children's Rights European Academic Network (CREAN) organises the conference “Interdisciplinary and Intersectional Challenges in Childhood and Children's Rights Studies”, taking place on 26 and 27 March 2020 at the University of Applied Sciences, in Potsdam, Germany.
Recently, intersectionality has started to be an important approach in interdisciplinary human and children’s rights oriented research. The term was introduced in the early 1980s by Kimberlé Crenshaw. Discussions on intersectionality as an important concept in contemporary research and activism have been placed mainly in women’s studies, gender studies, sex and race studies and increasingly in discriminatory practices due to class, religion, language and education. However, until today, in childhood and children’s rights studies intersectionality has not been given significant attention. There is wide agreement, that childhood and children’s rights can only be meaningfully researched from several, overlapping disciplines - similarly, children rights (violations) need to be looked at through the intersection of various factors. The conference therefore aims to unravel and discuss the contemporary interdisciplinary and intersectional challenges faced by childhood and children’s rights scholars today. It aims at creating conditions for dialogue as well as exchange of experiences and ideas from research and of activism connected with children’s rights and childhoods in different contexts, space and places.
This scientific conference, which is part of the activities developed by the Children’s Rights European Academic Network (CREAN), is open to CREAN members as well as for other interested participants.
Organizers particularly invite researchers, teachers and students, activists and policy-makers, staff members of NGOs and international organizations who work on themes related to intersectionality, interdisciplinarity, childhood, children’s rights, human rights studies and cognate academic fields.
This is the second bi-annual conference of the Children ́s Rights European Academic Network. CREAN aims to further enhance the academic field of children's rights as an interdisciplinary field of studies.
The network is composed of European higher education institutions that work together to support the development of education, research and outreach activities. Through its networking activities, CREAN acts as a platform for the promotion and exchange of information on scientific research and fosters research collaborations between its members.
