Council of Europe Releases 2026 Edition of ECHR Teaching Resources
The Council of Europe has published the 2026 edition of The European Convention on Human Rights in Practice – Teaching Resources, a free educational guide designed to support teaching and learning about the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) and the role of the European Court of Human Rights.
The updated resource, revised by Ali Bozkaya and Oleg Soldatov, provides an accessible and practical introduction to the Council of Europe, the Convention system, and the fundamental rights it protects. Spanning 46 pages, the publication combines clear explanations with interactive elements, case studies, and classroom activities to foster student engagement. One of the main objectives of the guide is to strengthen human rights education among young people, helping them understand how the Convention affects everyday life and democratic participation. By offering structured lesson materials and practical exercises, the publication helps educators make complex legal concepts more accessible and relevant.
The resource is primarily intended for secondary school teachers, but it is also suitable for university students, non-legal audiences, youth workers, and civic educators. In addition to a theoretical background, it includes case studies, discussion prompts, and group activities that encourage critical thinking and active learning.
This new edition forms part of the Council of Europe’s broader commitment to promoting human rights education and fostering informed, engaged citizens across Europe.
