Event "Volere per volare – Paralympic Sport for Social Inclusion: the Example of Tennis and Rowing", Padova, May 18th 2026

On May 18th at 4:00 PM, at Canottieri Padova, the association L'ONDA A.S.D., in collaboration with Gruppo COMMIT and under the patronage of the Italian Paralympic Committee CR Veneto, is promoting an event dedicated to paralympic sport and social inclusion.
The conference will focus in particular on tennis and rowing, with the participation of academic and institutional experts who will discuss the importance of sport and its social value.

Here are the scheduled talks:

  • Prof. Alessandro Angrilli (University of Padova) – The importance of sport for mental and brain health
  • Dr. Valeria Cappelletto (INAIL) – The Capability Approach applied to Paralympic sport
  • Prof. Valentina Cavedon (University of Verona) – Classification and Paralympic sport: the serve in Wheelchair Tennis
  • Dr. Emanuela Maria Mometto (AULSS no. 6 Euganea, Padova) – The healthcare pathway for the Paralympic athlete
  • Prof. Laura Nota and Prof. Sara Santilli (University of Padova) – Sport and disability between participation and inclusion
  • Nicolò Stefan (National Paralympic Tennis Master) – Training the Paralympic tennis player
  • Rossano Galtarossa (President of FIC) – Characteristics and differences between Olympic and Paralympic rowers

A round table with Paralympic tennis and rowing coaches in conversation will follow, moderated by journalist Paolo Braghetto, with the participation of Diego Bonavina, Councillor for Sport of the Municipality of Padova, Davide Giorgi, President of CIP CR Veneto and Barbara Manni from Obiettivo3.

At 4:15 PM, a public draw ceremony will take place to define the brackets for the ITF 100 COMMIT OPEN Wheelchair Tennis 2026 tournament.
The event will conclude at 6:30 PM with an aperitivo and the COMMIT OPEN 2026 Welcome Party.

Paralympic sport allows for a concrete application of the concept of inclusion, and this event represents an opportunity to celebrate a sporting culture in which disability is not a limitation, but rather an opportunity for empowerment.
