Freedom is Peace is Freedom, Padova Freedom Lecture Friday 4 June
Friday 4 June at 5 pm we invite you to the Padova Freedom Lecture - Freedom is Peace is Freedom, by Tawakkol Karman, winner of Nobel Peace Prize 2011.
After the meeting with the French philosopher Jean-Luc Nancy in the Spring of 2020, the Padova Freedom Lectures resume in June, a series of invited lectures aimed at underlining the founding value of libertas on the occasion of the celebrations for the 800th anniversary of the University of Padova.
Tawakkol Karman - Yemeni journalist, politician and human rights activist - will explain to us how freedom is the key ingredient in building peace, and vice versa.
Founder of the association "Women Journalists Without Chains", the protagonist of the Arab Spring in her country and arrested several times, Trawakkol Karman will discuss her struggle for the defence of fundamental rights, women's emancipation and the affirmation of democracy with Paolo De Stefani, professor of International Law and International Protection of Human Rights (Diritto internazionale e di Tutela internazionale dei diritti umani) at the University of Padova, and National Director for Italy of the The European Master’s Programme in Human Rights and Democratisation.
The event will be introduced by the Rector Rosario Rizzuto and the Vice-Rector for Cultural, Social and Gender Relations Annalisa Oboe.
The Padova Freedom Lectures are organised with the contribution of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Padova e Rovigo, and broadcast live in streaming on the University of Padova's YouTube channel.
