PhD Programme "Human Rights, Society, and Multi-level Governance": Dr. Elifcan Özbek succesfully defended her thesis on Integrated Sustainable Territorial Development, 19 May 2025

On May, 19th 2025, PhD candidate Elifcan Özbek of the PhD programme "Human Rights, Society, and Multi-level Governance" succesfully defended her thesis, at the Human Rights Centre "A. Papisca" headquarters at Polo Beato Pellegrino, University of Padova.
The doctoral degree programme is an interdisciplinary and cross-cutting course of research and study on the topic of human rights and sustainable development.
Dr. Özbek defended her thesis "Galanthus Nivalis: Towards an Integrated Sustainable Territorial Development in the Dolomites, Italy" under the supervision of prof. Lanzavecchia. It tackles the challenges faced by mountain areas under the scrutiny of climate change and tourism-based mountain economy, and it comprises five standalone articles/book chapters each exploring a different aspect and territorial reality.
The exam commission was chaired by Prof. Mauro Varotto (University of Padova) together with Professor Odysseas Christou (University of Nicosia) and Prof. Steve Ouma Akoth (Tangaza University).
The PhD scholarship was co-financed with the resources from the PON REACT-EU Programme.
