In a note published by the High Commissioner Of Human Rights, Ms Michelle Bachelet feels deeply alarmed at the latest developments in Belarus where on 14 July the security forces carried out dozens of raids on the offices and homes of human rights activists and journalists, and a number of people were reported to have been detained.

Bachelet continues affirming that the recent developments once again highlight the blatant disregard of the Belarus authorities for their obligations under international human rights law.

In conclusion, she calls on the Belarusian Government, which is frequently subject to her recommendations, to cease their policy of intimidating and harassing civil society and media workers and to immediately release those still in detention.
