UNESCO: UNITWIN/UNESCO Chairs Programme celebrates its 25th anniversary
The UNITWIN/UNESCO Chairs Programme celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2017. A special event is organized during the 39th session of the General Conference of UNESCO to mark this event. It will take place on 31st October 2017 at 15:00 p.m. at the UNESCO Fontenoy Building in Paris.
This celebration will provide an opportunity to review the achievements of the Programme over 25 years of action and to look forward to the contribution of UNESCO Chairs and UNITWIN Networks to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It's an opportunity the occasion to take stock of the achievements of the programme over 25 years of action and pay tribute to the commitment and hard work of academics, students, civil society organizations and many others involved at participating universities. The programme, which has helped to establish a vibrant network of 116 Member States and over 700 higher education institutions, including the UNESCO Chair of the University of Padova, shares UNESCO’s values, connects the Organization with communities, and mobilizes expertise to support the advancement of UNESCO’s goals in education, sciences, culture and communication. Built on a common vision of a world free of poverty and discrimination, this global network strengthens UNESCO’s links with scientists, researchers and communities of practice. Networking – a strategic added value of the programme – has helped universities and higher education and research institutions all over the globe to play their role fully in society.
The UNESCO Chair "Human Rights, Democracy And Peace", established in 1999 at the University of Padova's Human Rights Centre, contributes in giving coherence and international visibility to the training and research activities carried out by the Centre.
