On 24 October 2025, on United Nations Day, the UN celebrates the 80th anniversary of the entry into force of the UN Charter, which marked the birth of the Organisation. UN Day is celebrated every year and it offers the opportunity to reaffirm the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and to further the Organisation common agenda.

The United Nations is the most universal international organization and there is no other global organization with its legitimacy and normative impact. Its action has improved the lives of people around the world by promoting peace, human rights and social progress that led to better living standards for all.

Today, eighty years after its founding, the United Nations faces new challenges to which the UN has to adapt: the Agenda 2030, the UN80 initiative and the Pact for the Future are all part of this process with which the UN is looking to renew the foundations of international cooperation.
