To win over Covid-19 and all the other viruses, we should rekindle the spirit of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In this Charter, which is our Universal Constitution and the compass of humanity, it is written that "all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights ... and should act towards each other in a spirit of brotherhood".
It is now clear that no one can afford to think about safeguarding only himself anymore. Our health, safety, well-being, future and happiness, each of these precious assets of ours is deeply linked to that of others.
To face the serious crisis we are experiencing, to protect ourselves and those who are most in difficulty, to heal diseases and open wounds, to defend our fundamental rights, to ensure peace, dignity and rights for all, we need more care and more solidarity. It is up to everyone to make some contribution, and together we should quickly build a social protection system that protects the dignity of every human person and leaves no one alone.
This is why we must act "in a spirit of brotherhood".
On 10 December 2020, on the occasion of the International Human Rights Day, a Grand Assembly of Italian schools on rights and responsibilities will be held from 10:00 to 12:00 on the Zoom platform.
At the centre of the Assembly, there will be a lesson on human rights managed entirely by students of various Italian schools. The core themes of the lesson are human rights, responsibility and brotherhood. It will be a precious and very important opportunity to develop civic education by promoting a culture of rights and responsibility.
The Grand Assembly is organised by the National Network of Schools for Peace, National Coordination of Local Bodies for Peace and Human Rights, Table of Peace, Human Rights Center "Antonio Papisca" and Unesco Chair "Human Rights, Democracy and Peace" of the University of Padova, Network of Italian Universities for Peace, "Attilio Bertolucci" Lyceum of Parma.
