8 March 2023: International Women's Day

International Women's Day has been celebrated in many countries around the world on 8 March since 1977. On this day, the achievements of all women are celebrated, regardless of divisions, be they national, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic or political.

Over the years, this International Women's Day has taken on a new global dimension for women in developed and developing countries. The growing international women's movement, reinforced by four United Nations World Conferences on Women, has helped make the commemoration a rallying point for building support for women's rights and participation in the political and economic arena.

DigitALL: innovation and technology for gender equality
The United Nations is celebrating World Women's Day under the theme: "DigitALL: innovation and technology for gender equality". The organisation intends to recognise and celebrate women and girls who are advancing transformative technology and digital education. It will explore the impact of the digital gender gap on widening economic and social inequalities and highlight the importance of protecting the rights of women and girls in digital spaces and addressing gender-based violence online and facilitated by ICTs.
