L'UE stabilisce nuovi obiettivi di aiuto allo sviluppo

Sulla base delle proposte presentate dalla Commissione europea, il Consiglio Affari generali e relazioni esterne dell’UE ha stabilito una serie di obiettivi sull’aiuto allo sviluppo: si intende raggiungere il traguardo intermedio del 0,56% del PNL allo sviluppo entro il 2010 e l’obiettivo dello 0,7% entro il 2015.

Jean-Louis Schlitz, Ministro lussemburghese per la cooperazione allo sviluppo e l’azione umanitaria, ha ricordato: “Towards the end of last year, the European Union announced its intention of playing a major role in the Millennium Summit at the United Nations in New York in September 2005.The agreement we have come to…is an important step to achieving this aim. It demonstrates that Europe is not only making promises, but also that it meets its promises.

Louis Michel, commissario europeo per lo sviluppo e l’azione umanitaria ha invece dichiarato: “Just before the United Nation’s Summit (in September) on the Millennium Development Goals, this ambitious undertaking puts the European Union in the leadership role of development on a worldwide scale”.
