EDF has closely followed the adoption and implementation of the new EU Research & Innovation framework Horizon 2020 (2014-2020)1 . The programme provides 80 billion euros of funding to support the most innovative EU research areas. Thus, the goal of EDF with regard to this crucial flagship of the EU is to ensure that Horizon 2020 is fully in compliance with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities2 which explicitly obliges the State Parties to “undertake or promote research and development of universally designed goods, services, equipment and facilities”, including “information and communications technologies, mobility aids, devices and assistive technologies, suitable for persons with disabilities, giving priority to technologies at an affordable cost” (Article 4(1)).
