Conflict Management: Reconciliation in Kosovo
The paper’s objective is to demonstrate the effectiveness of reconciliation as a conflict resolution practice in Kosovar conflict case. The article analyses the initiative for the establishment of a Regional Commission for Truth-seeking and Truth-telling about War Crimes committed in former Yugoslavia (RECOM), and the Study Group experience (an ethnically mixed group composed by young people who chose dialogue and reconciliation instead of revenge) realised by Operation Dove, the peace corps of the Association Comunità Papa Giovanni XXIII.
As a peaceworker of Operation Dove, the author personal implication in those kind of experiences allowed her to investigate the study’s assumption. She privately interviewed some of the reconciliation processes participants in order to focus on the feedback they produced. The interviews collected has been methodically examined in comparison with the most important conflict management theories and practices. The proposed cases results prove reconciliation as a suitable way in order to facilitate the conflict resolution process in Kosovo. Nonviolent and reconciliation processes has promoted: conflict issues analysis; conflict issues resolution; the hatred cycle and the violent escalation ending; conflict trauma healing; conflict reframing; relationships transformation among parties in conflict.
